Back when I was  12 years old, I  heard about Viet Nam
The  draft had took my  brother, so I  knew my day would  come
I  started seeing  life back then, through  another set of eyes
I was gonna be  different, I’d  come to realize

Homefolks worked in the  factory, ‘bout the  only chance they had
Low pay and  layoffs,  more than times were  bad
But it  seems I needed  more from life, than  everybody  else
By the  time I turned  14, I had  promised  myself……….

That I’d

CHORUS
never work in the  factory, or that  dirty old saw mill
So I  ran off and joined the  Navy, might  learn myself a  skill
I  found there’s  another life, out side the county line
Ain’t  never once looked  back, at the  life I left be hind

“Don’t get above your raisings, boy” my  Mama used to  say
Its  good enough for your  Daddy and we  live on factory  pay
I  guess they never  dreamed of living  outside of our home town
And  that’s what made all the  difference  the day I said good bye….
That I’d

Repeat Chorus

TAG:  Ain’t never once looked back, at the life I left behind
