From Germany, a  soldier calls his mom &  dad before supper
Cause tomorrow  morning he’s up at four and he’ll be gone

In  anticipation, his  mom grabs the phone on the  first ring
She  cries out to her husband,  John, get on the  phone

Oh my son, we really fear for you
I can’t believe you’re going off to war
You are my very own flesh and blood
I’ll pray for you night and day to keep you safe from harm....

Dad says "Son, you be careful over there
I just want to you to come home in one piece
You know I’d give my right arm to keep you from going
We’ll pray for the Lord above , to keep watch over you?

1st Chorus
:  Mom, I have trained for this  day and I am  ready,

And yes Dad, I’ll keep my head down.
And when I get back, we’ll both go fishing
And  Mom, I’ll take you,  out on the  town

2nd Chorus:

A soldier doesn’t  asks any  questions
When the  politicians  send them off to war
They’re  own sons and  daughters, they’re always  safe a  home
Not  dying on some  foreign  shore

The  brave soldier’s  voice  quivers
 Mom and Dad ,  I love you“[C/G]

As his  mother cries  you’re my  baby
 We love you
