From Dallas to Brownsville, I've traveled the Lone Star State
McAllen to Waco, Alice to Austin, places along the way
I wanted to see where Ole Waylon grew up and walked down the street
Just to see the town of Littlefield, would've meant so much tome
1st CHORUS
But I never made El Paso, Amarillo or Lubbock Town
To see where Buddy and Waylon, Turned the music around
When I was a kid in Virginia, El Paso was a world away
I never thought I'd even see Texas, till I joined the Navy one day
I dreamed of going to out West, all those cowboy towns to see
Have a drink in Rosa’s Cantina, would've meant so much to me
2nd Chorus
But I never made El Paso, to see what Marty was writing about
Or the Bad Lands of New Mexico, set my feet on the ground
Bridge
On a drive up to Johnson City, on my way to Fredricks burg
I stopped in to see old Lucken bach, just to hold Waylon to his word
3rd Chorus
But I never made El Paso, Abilene or LSan Angelo
Drank Mescal in Amanda’s Saloon on Sonara’s Death Row
TAGI never made El Paso,
