FAMILY TREE

In the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains
Where this country boy was raised, and everybody was kin
Forty miles north of the Carolina pines
Where nobody ever taught us our Ancestral bloodlines

My Mama and my Daddy shared the same last name
And two of Mama’s sisters, also did the same
The Sawyers and the Pilson’s weren’t that close to me
Til I started on my journey to learn my Family Tree

The Foley name is Irish, and my wife loved her Irish Man
Turns out, my line came from England, southwest of Birmingham
Back as far as the 15th century Foley’s have called it home
I’m thankful young Thomas felt the urge to roam

The Sawyers are on Mama’s side also hailed from England
Just like the Foley clan they go back 400 years
Rogers said goodbye to   Sussex, sailed across the ocean
By 1720 Virginia was now their home

Turnaround

My Irish blood comes from Daddy’s side, by way of his Mama
The Pilson’s came late, by immigration times
In 1750, Richard had enough of Downpatrick
Grabbed his son and they set sail for the promised land

Now I sit in Mama’s yard looking at the Blue Ridge Mountains
Where this country boy was raised, and everybody was kin
Knowing what I know now about my family history
I wish someone had taught us about our Family Tree
