Diamonds In The Rough Vol Three

1948 Header

You are listening to:   Innocent Man

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Angry Man (Sep 2006): I don’t remember a particular motivated factor, but I know it was job related.  THINGS TO KNOW:  Once you are marked as an Angry Man, you’re immediately guilty!

Blind By Choice (March 1998) I really struggled for about year about how to write this song.  One day, it dawned upon me to make it a Blind Street Singer.  Then I wrote it in an hour!  This version of the song was part of knockoff CD titled “Blame It On Mexico” which was mainly cover songs..
THINGS TO KNOW..The question is if you had to give up a natural sense what would you choose.

Come Back To The Country (Aug 2011)
:  Another song I wrote at Pullman City Edging on the second day.  Time has made much of the theme, obsolete, but the basic idea remains.  THINGS TO KNOW:  Sounds like a theme for TV Series.

Daddy I Got A Question ( Aug 2009)  This was written 2 years before my fathers death.THINGS TO KNOW..I’ve never performed this song Live!

Dear Noah (Sep 2010)  A young soldier died in a Army Hospital after a rare illness.  He left a 10 year old son (Noah) and 6 year old daughter.  THINGS TO KNOW:
Neither Noah or his widowed mother have ever heard this.  Maybe one of these days.

Forgive Me Marty (Nov 1996) Not long after I retired from the Navy, I started writing a lot of songs.  This was the first of the batch.  THINGS TO KNOW:  I was stationed in Corpus Christi a year prior and we used to go to Neuvo Laredo every month or so, but El Paso was 400 miles away!

Free Ride (Sep 2005)  The last of factory in my hometown shut down in 2003 and it left a lot family members unemployed.  The theme was inspired about some taking a lesser job just to have one.  THING TO KNOW:  The economy in my hometown sucked even its best days!

He Needs Her Now (Dec 2006).   Written about how my father need my mama to take care of him now that he was bedridden.  THINGS TO KNOW:  You never know how much you will need your partner some day.

Hobo Blues  (Jul 2006) I remember writing this just to have a 12 bar blues song.  THINGS TO KNOW:
The music was used in my parody song “Bailout Blues” during the Banking Crisis of 2008!

Jonathan’s Song:  (Feb 2005).  The first time this song has been published.  It’s a tribute to my cousin Marine Corporal Jonathan Bowling.  .  Jonathan was killed in IRAQ. THINGS TO KNOW:  Jonathan and I are related through his mother, but I went to school for all 12 years with his father.  This song is also part of my Rt. 2 Stuart Virginia CD

Just Another Train Song Blues (Jul 1997)
Wrote this after we had visited an old Train Station in my wife’s hometown.  THINGS TO KNOW:  I love the classic old train stations.

Innocent Man (May 2021)
A spin-off from my song Last night in Huntsville (Apr 2021) In this case, the conviction had been overturned because of Crooked Cops, but he had still the stigma of 2 years in jail and his family had almost been destroyed in the process.  Things to Know:  It seems every week somebody is being released from jail after 20-40 years as an “Innocent Man”.

Line Dance Boogie Woogie (Dec 2001)
Wrote this song as more of a joke.  :  I despise line dancing, it has driven the live entertainment to been nothing better than a Karoke Band.  THINGS TO KNOW:  In 1997 one of the first gigs I was booked to play was for 15 minutes an hour, between the LINE DANCE 45 minute set, because the Line Dancers would not dance to live music, they needed the beat and structure to be EXACTLY from what that learned!!

One AM In Tacoma (Feb 1998)
This version of the song was part of knockoff CD titled “Blame It On Mexico” which was mainly cover songs.  Its about when our daughter left with her husband to be stationed in Washington State.  It was a 9-hour time difference.  THINGS TO KNOW: She called at 10 AM to tell us they arrived safely, and it was One AM in Tacoma.

Rat Race USA (01 Jan 1998)  I clearly remember writing this song about all the hype in the US about what you HAVE to do
THINGS TO KNOW:  This is a cut from my knock off CD “Blame It On Mexico”

Singers, Picker, Writers (July 1994)
The second song I wrote after about a 20 year dry spell.  It focused more on the guitar riff I was playing than the written them.  THINGS TO KNOW:  I was living in Corpus Christi and started going to weekly “songwriter sessions” with a local group.
